CommentsThe epitope recognized by FvD1.3 on hen egg white lysozyme (HEL) mutant D18A was determined by X-ray crystallography of the complex. The replacement of contact residue HEL Asp18 by alanine is compensated by the stable inclusion of additional water molecules and by local rearrangements in solvent structure rather than by adjustments in the conformation of the protein.
